Discovering the ancient “Island of the goats”. In fact, this was once called the island of Giglio due to the presence of numerous goats (from which the term Aegilion derives). Today there is no trace of sheep and terrestrial fauna, only a fair number of wild rabbits remain. It is the second largest island in the Tuscan archipelago, after Elba, and boasts an unspoiled landscape, with one of the clearest and cleanest seas on the Tyrrhenian coast. Departure from Porto Santo Stefano where, after about 50 minutes of navigation, we arrive at the island of Giglio with a stop at Arenella, Cala Smeraldo (beach of Cannelle) and Caldane. Upon request, it is possible to disembark at Giglio Porto, the only port on the island rebuilt in 1796 and dominated by the mighty Torre del Saracenor built in 1596 at the behest of Grand Duke Ferdinando I de’Medici, for lunch or a visit to Giglio Castello for a walk. Giglio Castello is the capital of the island, dominated by the bulk of the Pisan fortress and still enclosed in the circuit of the turreted walls; it is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The glimpses of the historic center are characteristic. In the event that the weather conditions do not allow to navigate the eastern part of the island we will do the western one with a stop at Campese before returning to Porto Santo Stefano.
